Meetings are an opportunity to align employees with business goals, discuss plans and projects and to determine a way forward. It’s very easy for business and internal meetings to become a hassle, or to become boring. The moment boredom strikes, employees will not be engaged in the information being shared.
Simply changing your routine can make things seem more interesting and different. Here are a few tips to help you make meetings more productive.
Start with something different for each meeting to switch things up a bit. It could be anything from a quotation that will inspire the team, to a skit demonstrating something within the workplace, to a video of something innovative. Give different employees a chance to share something innovative with the team.
Change The Meeting Venue
Having meetings in different locations will help relieve the monotony. Think about making shorter meetings a stand-up around a desk, or move to the cafeteria for a change of scenery. For an invigorating change of pace, host meetings outdoors in a space that has good acoustics.
Introduce A Short Meditation Before You Begin
To set the tone for a clear and focused meeting, you can try starting with a short, guided meditation or breath work. Stillness, deep breathing and mindfulness can help open everyone’s minds to different perspectives. It will calm everyone down and allow to meeting to kick-off on neutral ground.
Give Everyone A Chance To Speak
Instead of having one team member direct the meeting, give everyone a chance to speak. Go around the table and allow each team member to give their input. Staying present in order to say their piece will keep employees involved in what is being shared.
